Cancer care involves treatment, early detection, prevention and ongoing support.
Nurses are at the centre of that journey, and increasingly, they are also helping shape it through research.
For Rachael Oduyemi and Faith Ajayi, presenting at the 1st National Oncology Nursing Conference was an important opportunity to share their research and contribute to conversations about cancer care in Nigeria and beyond.
Rachael Oduyemi: Taking Breast Cancer Awareness to the Community

Many women living in rural communities still face barriers to breast cancer screening and early detection.
Rachael Oduyemi's research addressed this challenge through her study, "Feasibility and Acceptability of a Community-Based Peer Education Programme to Enhance Breast Cancer Screening Practices among Rural Women in Ogun State, Nigeria."

Her work explored how community members can become part of the solution by promoting breast cancer awareness and encouraging early screening within their own communities.
Meaningful healthcare can begin with education and conversations within communities, where people support one another.
Faith Ajayi: Exploring the Future of Breast Cancer Care

While Rachael's work focused on communities, Faith Ajayi looked towards technology.
Her research, "Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Digital Interventions in Breast Cancer Care: A Scoping Review," examined how digital tools are supporting breast cancer care across diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and patient support.
For Faith, the conference also marked a personal milestone. It was her first oral abstract presentation, an experience that strengthened both her confidence and her commitment to oncology research.
She credits Nursiscope's mentorship for providing guidance throughout the research process and encouragement when it mattered most, including on the day of her presentation.

Research That Gives Hope
Although they approached breast cancer from different perspectives, Rachael and Faith share one goal: improving the lives of patients through research.
Their journeys show how nurses care for patients today while contributing to better healthcare for tomorrow.
At Nursiscope, we remain committed to raising a generation of nurses who ask important questions, pursue meaningful research, and develop solutions that make a lasting difference.
